Mesh geometry

Grating Mesh Spacing: What Each Opening Suits

Grating mesh — often quoted as wire grating, steel grating mesh or open mesh flooring — is defined by one decision: the opening. We form welded mesh at 30 / 40 / 60 mm centers on the electro-forging line, and press-locked close mesh at 11 / 11 mm for heel-proof floors. Here is what each spacing is for.

Mesh spacing How we form it What it suits Heel-proof
30 mm centersWelded — in-house welding lineThe densest welded mesh: fine debris falls through, high load stays up — platforms, plant flooring, mezzaninesNo — shod industrial traffic
40 mm centersWelded — in-house welding lineThe balanced standard for walkways and stairs: strong footing with free drainage and airflowNo — shod industrial traffic
60 mm centersWelded — in-house welding lineMaximum openness for water — trench covers and drainage flooring where flow matters more than footfallNo — light traffic areas
11 / 11 mm close meshPress-locked — in-house press lineHeel-proof public floors, tree pits, facade infill, fine platforms where small items must not drop throughYes — public and municipal floors

Mesh, drawn plain

The Same Panel, Two Mesh Densities

bearing bars cross bars 30 / 40 / 60 mm centers, forge-welded joints

1 · Welded open mesh

Bearing bars and cross bars are resistance-forged together at every intersection — open mesh that carries wheels and boots at any span.

11 / 11 mm openings, press-locked — no weld heat

2 · Press-locked close mesh

Notched bearing bars and cross bars are pressed together mechanically — dense, perfectly flat mesh with no weld heat distortion.

3 · Heel-proof by geometry

At 11 / 11 mm, a shoe heel, a paw and most litter stay on the surface — open mesh flooring approved for public concourses, not just plant floors. Wider welded mesh trades that for load and flow.

Why mesh floors

Why Buyers Specify Open Mesh Flooring

Ventilated mesh flooring

Air, light and liquids pass straight through the mesh — nothing pools, nothing hides. The floor dries itself, which is why grating mesh is the default where washdown or weather meets steel.

Anti-slip underfoot

Plain mesh for dry zones, serrated bearing bars for wet or oily ones — the same mesh geometry with a grippier surface. Tell us the duty; we quote the right bar.

Custom mesh to your drawings

Any spacing we form, welded or press-locked, cut and banded to your drawings — with free drawing review inside the 24-hour quote. Small trial orders welcome.

Applications

Where Grating Mesh Works

Pick the opening by what walks or rolls over it — heels, boots or wheels — and by what must pass through it.

Public & municipal floors

11 / 11 mm close mesh for concourses, tree pits and facades — heel-proof and flat.

Platforms & walkways

30 / 40 mm welded mesh under boots — load-rated flooring with debris fall-through.

Trench & drainage covers

60 mm centers for maximum water flow across trench drains and gullies.

Mesh treads & landings

Grating mesh cut into stair treads and landings, nosing and banding included.

Materials & test documents

Every heat of Q235B, SS304 or SS316 enters production with its mill test certificate verified at goods-in — the first of our five QC stages. Mesh panels leave with documentation, not promises:

  • Mill test certificate to EN 10204 Type 3.1
  • Factory inspection report with every shipment
  • Declaration of Conformity prepared per order destination

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Which mesh spacing is heel-proof?

Openings of 11 / 11 mm press-locked close mesh keep shoe heels and paws on the surface, which is why we recommend it for public floors, tree pits and facade infill. Welded mesh at 30 / 40 / 60 mm centers is made for shod industrial traffic — specify it for platforms and trench covers, not concourses.

What is the lead time for grating mesh panels?

Samples ship in 5–7 working days and mass production runs 15–25 working days after drawing confirmation, both including hot-dip galvanizing. Rush production in 10–15 days is possible with a surcharge — ask in your quote.

Do you accept small trial orders of mesh flooring?

Yes — small trial orders are welcome. Pricing is itemized per m² or per ton in your quote; FOB Tianjin as standard, EXW or CIF negotiable. We do not publish a fixed price list.
