Process comparison
Forge-Welded vs Press-Locked vs Swage-Locked
The forming process decides load behavior, mesh density and flatness. Here is how the three grating processes compare — with an honest note on which lines run in our own workshop.
| Dimension | Forge-Welded | Press-Locked | Swage-Locked |
|---|---|---|---|
| Forming principle | Every bearing-bar / cross-bar intersection resistance-forged under pressure | Cross bars mechanically pressed into notched bearing bars — no welding | Cross bars swaged through pre-punched bearing bars |
| Load behavior | High load capacity at wide spans; joints cannot work loose | Very uniform load distribution; suited to pedestrian traffic | High transverse stiffness; holds fine bars firmly |
| Mesh range | 30 / 40 / 60 mm centers | Down to 11 / 11 mm close mesh | Dense patterns; depends on bar selection |
| Panel flatness | Flat panels straight off the line | Extremely flat — no weld heat, no distortion | Flat; depends on bar tolerances |
| Typical use | Platforms, walkways, trench covers, guardrails | Municipal trench, tree pits, facades, fine floors | Architectural and fine-mesh flooring |
| Our lines | In-house — electro-forging line | In-house — press-lock machine | Assessed per project on our press line |

How panels are made
From Bearing Bars to Finished Panels
1 · Electro-forged welding
Bearing bars and cross bars are assembled, then every intersection is pressure-forged in one pass — a single solid panel with no clips that can loosen.
2 · Press-locking
For close-mesh panels, cross bars are mechanically pressed into notched bearing bars — no heat, so panels stay perfectly flat.
3 · Hot-dip galvanizing
Panels go to a certified galvanizing partner near our mill for ASTM A123 / ISO 1461 hot-dip galvanizing — typically 2–3 days, already counted inside your production window.
Why specify welded
Why Engineers Specify Welded Steel Bar Grating
Rated load at any span
One-piece welded construction spreads wheel and foot loads across the full panel. Specify by span, not by guesswork — load tables available on request.
Flat & strong, straight off the line
Electro-forging keeps welded bar grating flat without post-weld straightening — quieter floors underfoot and faster installation on site.
Custom sizes to your drawings
19W4 stock specs or fully custom dimensions — panels cut and banded to your drawings, with free drawing review inside the 24-hour quote.
Applications
Where Welded Bar Grating Works
Open mesh that sheds water, ice and debris — welded panels are the default choice wherever people or wheels meet steel flooring.
Industrial platforms & mezzanines
Load-rated flooring for maintenance platforms, mezzanines and plant walkways.
Walkways & catwalks
Open mesh drains rain and spills, keeping walking surfaces visible and safe.
Trench & drainage covers
Covers for trench drains, gullies and catch basins — heel-proof openings optional.
Stair treads & guardrails
Welded treads with serrated or plain surfaces; matching guardrail infill panels.

Materials & test documents
Every heat of Q235B, SS304 or SS316 enters production with its mill test certificate verified at goods-in — the first of our five QC stages. Panels leave with documentation, not promises:
- Mill test certificate to EN 10204 Type 3.1
- Factory inspection report with every shipment
- Declaration of Conformity prepared per order destination
Standards & compliance
Produced to Recognized Standards — Documents on Request
ANSI / NAAMM MBG 531
Welded panels produced to MBG 531 reference practice, with weld inspection on our five-stage QC plan.
ASTM A123 / ISO 1461 HDG
Galvanized coating thickness checked by sampling on every galvanized batch before panels are released.
CE & SGS tested
Certified & tested, reports on request — we show documents you can verify, not a certificate wall.

FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the lead time for welded steel grating?
Samples ship in 5–7 working days and mass production runs 15–25 working days after drawing confirmation, both including hot-dip galvanizing. Rush production in 10–15 days is possible with a surcharge — ask in your quote.
Do you accept small trial orders?
Yes — small trial orders are welcome. Full-container orders are calculated per loading plan, so you only pay for the steel you ship.
How is welded grating shipped and priced?
Shipped worldwide from Tianjin Port — FOB Tianjin as standard, EXW or CIF negotiable. Pricing is itemized per m² or per ton in your quote; we do not publish a fixed price list.
