Duty × process

Why Heavy Duty and Welded Belong Together

Heavy duty answers how much load; the forming process answers how the panel carries it. The general duty framing lives on our heavy-duty grating page, the bar-construction view on heavy-duty bar grating, and the flooring view on heavy-duty steel floor grating. This page is the intersection: what changes when the panel must take wheels and be welded.

When wheels cross the same joints thousands of times, joint integrity becomes the specification. Here is how the three forming processes behave in that duty — with an honest note on which lines run in our own workshop.

How the panel is built

From Heavy Bars to Fused Panels

light section heavy section, toward 100×8 mm bearing bar height × thickness

1 · Bar sections toward 100×8 mm

Heavy duty starts with the bearing bar: our welded line runs from 20×3 mm up to 100×8 mm sections. Depth carries the load, thickness resists the wheel — specify by span and wheel load, not by habit.

bearing bars cross bars fused joints

2 · Every intersection fused

On the electro-forging line, each bearing-bar and cross-bar crossing is resistance-forged in one pass. The panel leaves as one piece — no clips that can loosen as wheels cross and recross the same joints.

banded edge then hot-dip galvanized

3 · Banded edges, HDG finish

Load-line edges are banded so wheel contact lands on a closed edge, then panels go to a certified galvanizing partner for ASTM A123 / ISO 1461 hot-dip galvanizing — typically 2–3 days, already counted inside your production window.

Why specify welded heavy duty

Why Engineers Specify Welded for Heavy Duty

Nothing to loosen under wheels

Every intersection on a welded steel grating panel is fused, so repeated wheel passes find no clip to rattle and no press fit to relax — the joint you inspect on day one is the joint you have in year ten.

Full welded spec range

Bearing bars from 20×3 mm toward 100×8 mm, spacing at 30 / 40 / 60 mm centers. Full specs and drawings on request — the size is matched to your span and wheel load, never padded.

Factory made, tested, any quantity

Custom sizes from the mill that fuses the joints, samples in 5–7 working days, ASTM A123 / ISO 1461 galvanizing optional. Certified & tested, reports on request — small trial orders welcome.

Applications

Where Heavy Duty Welded Grating Earns Its Keep

Wherever wheels meet an open steel floor, fused joints and deep bearing bars are the combination that holds up — qualitatively, this is the panel class for repeated crossings, not just standing weight.

Docks & freight yards

Forklift and truck crossings where the same joints are loaded thousands of times a week.

Heavy plant flooring

Mill and power-plant floors around equipment, drains and wash-down zones.

Trench covers under traffic

Roadside and apron trenches where vehicle wheels cross the panel edge, not just the span.

Heavy platforms & access

Mezzanines and equipment access floors carrying pallets, tools and maintenance traffic.

Materials & test documents

Every heat of Q235B, SS304 or SS316 enters production with its mill test certificate verified at goods-in — the first of our five QC stages. Welds get 100% visual inspection plus sampling on the line. Panels leave with documentation, not promises:

  • Mill test certificate to EN 10204 Type 3.1
  • Factory inspection report with every shipment
  • Declaration of Conformity prepared per order destination

Standards & compliance

Produced to Recognized Standards — Documents on Request

ANSI / NAAMM MBG 532

Heavy-duty welded panels produced to the MBG 532 reference practice, with weld inspection built into the five-stage QC plan.

ASTM A123 / ISO 1461 HDG

Galvanized coating thickness checked by sampling on every galvanized batch before heavy panels are released.

CE & SGS tested

Certified & tested, reports on request — we show documents you can verify, not a certificate wall.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

What bar sizes does heavy duty welded grating use?

Bearing bars run from 20×3 mm up to 100×8 mm, with heavy-duty panels sitting toward the top of that range on 30, 40 or 60 mm centers. Panels measure up to 1.25 m wide and 6 m long; anything beyond the standard range is cut and banded to your drawings.

Why choose electro-forged construction for wheel loads?

Every bearing-bar to cross-bar intersection is fused in one pass, so there is no clip or mechanical joint to work loose under repeated wheel passes — load travels through the panel as one piece. Send your span and wheel load and we confirm the bar section inside the 24-hour quote.

What is the lead time and how is heavy duty welded grating shipped?

Samples ship in 5–7 working days and mass production runs 15–25 working days after drawing confirmation, hot-dip galvanizing included. Panels ship worldwide from Tianjin Port — FOB Tianjin as standard, EXW or CIF negotiable, itemized quote on request.
