What Makes a Bar Grating Heavy Duty
Specifying steel grating heavy duty enough for truck axles is a bar-construction question: how deep the bearing bars are, how thick, how far apart, and what locks them together. Duty levels are not a mood — they are four numbers on a drawing. Here is how the two levels differ across ours.
| Dimension | Standard-Duty Bars | Heavy Duty Bar Grating |
|---|---|---|
| Bearing bar depth | 20×3 to 50×5 mm — walkways, catwalks, light floors | Deep end of our range: 60×5, 80×6 up to 100×8 mm |
| Bar thickness | 3–5 mm typical | 5–8 mm — more steel in every bar, less deflection |
| Bar spacing | 40 / 60 mm centers where traffic is light | 30 / 40 mm centers to put more bars under a wheel |
| Cross bars | Twisted square or round, standard section | Heavier cross-bar section — twisted square or round, per specification |
| Span behavior | Chosen against foot traffic on short spans | Deep bars carry wheel loads across the clear span you set |
| Edge detail | Open or banded ends as drawn | Banded edges standard on heavy panels — end bars take clamping and kerb contact |
| Reference practice | ANSI/NAAMM MBG 531 standard-duty reference | ANSI/NAAMM MBG 532 heavy-duty reference practice — produced to, reports on request |

How the bars carry the load
Depth, Centers, Cross Bars — In That Order
1 · Depth before quantity
For a flat bar, bending capacity grows with the square of the depth. Doubling bar depth buys far more capacity than doubling bar count — so heavy duty starts by deepening bearing bars toward 100×8 mm, not by crowding in small ones.
2 · Closer centers, real cross bars
A wheel footprint is not a uniform load. Closing centers from 60 to 30 or 40 mm puts more bars under the contact patch, and the cross-bar section — twisted square or round, per specification — keeps them loaded together instead of working alone.
3 · Banded edges, galvanized
Heavy panels get banded edges so end bars take clamping and kerb contact, then hot-dip galvanizing to ASTM A123 / ISO 1461 at our certified partner — the 2–3 day cycle already sits inside your production window.
Why buy the bars from the mill
Why Buyers Specify Heavy Duty Bar Grating Factory-Made
Full bar grating specs, free
Bar depths, thicknesses, centers and cross-bar options straight from the factory floor — not a distributor's cut sheet. Ask for the bar grating spec sheet with your quote.
Sample in 5–7 working days
Check the weld, the bar squareness and the galvanized finish on your own bench before you commit to a full order — samples include hot-dip galvanizing.
Custom sizes, any quantity
Panels cut and banded to your drawings — bar depth, centers and cross bars built to the loads you name. Small trial orders welcome, full containers calculated per loading plan.
Applications
Where Heavy Bar Construction Pays Off
Anywhere wheels replace feet, the bar spec decides whether the floor survives. These are the duties where heavy duty floor grating earns its extra steel.
Forklift & plant floors
Heavy duty floor grating for daily truck routes, loading bays and VNA aisles — open mesh that still sheds debris.
Docks, yards & aprons
Deep-bar panels over pits and drainage slots where trailers turn daily and nothing can be shut down for repairs.
Vehicle crossings & kerb zones
Banded-edge covers for access points that trucks clip and clamp — bar depth set against the axle, not the area.
Trench & pit covers under wheels
Wide trenches crossed by maintenance traffic — closer centers keep the load off any single bar pair.

Materials & test documents
Every heat of Q235B, SS304 or SS316 enters production with its mill test certificate verified at goods-in — the first of our five QC stages. Deep bars are only trustworthy if the steel behind them is traceable, so panels leave with documentation, not promises:
- Mill test certificate to EN 10204 Type 3.1
- Factory inspection report with every shipment
- Declaration of Conformity prepared per order destination

Standards & compliance
Produced to Recognized Practice — Documents on Request
ANSI / NAAMM MBG 532
The heavy-duty member of the NAAMM reference pair. When your drawing cites MBG 532, we produce to that practice and back it with inspection reports on request — referenced practice, not a certification claim.
ANSI / NAAMM MBG 531
The standard-duty counterpart for walkway and pedestrian panels — useful when one project mixes both duty levels and one supplier has to hold both threads.
ASTM A123 / ISO 1461 HDG
Galvanized coating thickness checked by sampling on every galvanized batch before heavy panels are released for shipment.

FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions
What bar sizes make grating heavy duty?
In practice, heavy duty bar grating sits at the deep end of the bar range — bearing bars from 60×5 up to 100×8 mm, usually on 30 or 40 mm centers instead of wider spacing. The exact choice depends on your clear span and wheel load; send both and our engineers will spec the panel inside the 24-hour quote.
Can heavy duty bar grating be cut to custom sizes?
Yes — panels are cut and banded to your drawings, with free drawing review inside the 24-hour quote. Samples ship in 5–7 working days and production runs 15–25 working days after drawing confirmation, hot-dip galvanizing included.
How is heavy duty bar grating shipped and priced?
Shipped worldwide from Tianjin Port — FOB Tianjin as standard, EXW or CIF negotiable. Pricing is itemized per m² or per ton in your quote; small trial orders are welcome and full-container orders are calculated per loading plan.
