Walkways That Take More Than Feet
A pedestrian walkway panel and a walk route crossed by pallet trucks are two different products. Most "heavy duty walkway grating" enquiries are exactly that second case — a walk route that doubles as a traffic route. The grid below is how we size it, using our real bar range rather than a guessed load class.
| Load case on the route | Feet only | Pallet trucks & trolleys Most enquiries | Light vehicle crossings |
|---|---|---|---|
| Bearing bars | Lighter sections from 20×3 mm upward | Mid to upper range as laden wheels rise | Toward the top of our range — up to 100×8 mm |
| Bar spacing | 30 / 40 / 60 mm centers, chosen for debris | 30 / 40 / 60 mm centers, closer as loads rise | Closer centers — spacing follows the wheel, not the price |
| Supports | Wider support spacing is usually fine | Closer supports under the crossing points | Support framing per your span calculation — we size to your drawings |
| Walking surface | Plain top is comfortable underfoot | Serrated top recommended — wheels track water in | Serrated top, HDG or stainless for outdoor duty |
| Edge treatment | Banded edges optional | Band edges where wheels leave the panel | Full banding and closing ends as standard practice |
| Tell us in the RFQ | Route size and traffic level | Wheel type, laden weight, clear span | Vehicle type, axle detail, crossing frequency, span |
Why the wheel changes everything
Feet spread load over the whole panel; a wheel concentrates it on one or two bearing bars. That is why a heavy duty walkway is not "more of the same grating" — it is thicker bars toward 100×8 mm, closer supports under the crossing, and edges that survive being driven over. The heavy-duty grating fundamentals page covers what changes; here we apply it to walk routes specifically.
How to tell us the load case
Three inputs are enough: what crosses (feet, pallet trucks, light vehicles), the wheel or axle detail with laden weight, and the clear span between supports. Add route dimensions and quantity — we confirm bar size, spacing and banding inside the 24-hour quote.
Load case unclear or mixed? Send your drawings and traffic description — we will spec it inside the 24-hour quote.
Panel anatomy
Three Things That Make a Walkway Heavy Duty
1 · Heavier bearing bars
Wheels land on single bars, so the bar is the first thing we move: from light 20×3 mm pedestrian sections up to 100×8 mm at the top of our range, sized to your laden wheel.
2 · Closer supports
Span — the clear distance between supports — drives panel load behavior more than anything else. We tell you the support spacing your route needs, or work to the steelwork you already have.
3 · Serrated top
A serrated tooth on the bearing bar gives wet or oily footwear a mechanical edge to bite — geometry as the design goal. Plain tops stay available for indoor comfort routes; see the serrated grating page.
Why specify heavy duty
Load-Rated, Anti-Slip, Made to Size
Load-rated walkway grating
Specified against your real load case — wheel type, laden weight and span — not a generic duty label. Load test data for your walkway is available on request with your quote.
Anti-slip, serrated or plain
Serrated heavy duty walkway panels where water and oil ride in on the wheels; plain tops for dry interior routes. The open mesh sheds both, so the surface stays visible under traffic.
Heavy duty walkway to size
Custom heavy duty walkway sizes from small MOQ — panels cut and banded to your route drawings, with free drawing review inside the 24-hour quote.
Applications
Where Heavy Duty Walkway Grating Earns Its Name
Every route below looks like a walkway on the drawing — and carries wheels in real life. That is the gap this panel closes.
Pallet-truck crossings
Picking routes where staff walk and pump trucks cross the same grating all shift — the classic heavy duty walkway case.
Yard & dock access routes
Grated walk routes at gates, docks and aprons where light vehicles cross — galvanized after fabrication for outdoor duty.
Mezzanine transfer routes
Level-change walkways where trolleys move goods between platform sections — closer supports, banded edges.
Wet & corrosive variants
The same heavy sections in SS304 / SS316 stainless for washdown and chemical walk routes — see stainless options.

Materials & test documents
Every heat of Q235B, SS304 or SS316 enters production with its mill test certificate verified at goods-in — the first of our five QC stages. Panels leave with documentation, not promises:
- Mill test certificate to EN 10204 Type 3.1
- Load test data for your walkway, on request
- Factory inspection report with every shipment
- Declaration of Conformity prepared per order destination
Standards & compliance
Produced to Recognized Standards — Documents on Request
ANSI / NAAMM MBG 532
Heavy-duty walkway panels produced to the MBG 532-24 heavy-load reference practice, with weld inspection on our five-stage QC plan.
ASTM A123 / ISO 1461 HDG
Galvanized coating thickness checked by sampling on every galvanized batch before panels are released.
CE & SGS tested
Certified & tested, reports on request — we show documents you can verify, not a certificate wall.

FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions
What should I send for a heavy duty walkway grating quote?
Tell us the load case: what crosses the walkway (feet only, pallet trucks or light vehicles), the wheel type and laden weight, the clear span between supports, and the route dimensions. With those four inputs we size the bearing bars, spacing and edge banding inside the 24-hour quote.
What is the lead time for heavy duty walkway grating?
Samples ship in 5–7 working days and mass production runs 15–25 working days after drawing confirmation, both including hot-dip galvanizing. Rush production in 10–15 days is possible with a surcharge — ask in your quote.
How is heavy duty walkway grating shipped and priced?
Shipped worldwide from Tianjin Port — FOB Tianjin as standard, EXW or CIF negotiable. Pricing is itemized per m² or per ton in your quote; we do not publish a fixed price list.
