Mesh format comparison
Welded Mesh Panels vs Press-Locked Close Mesh vs Serrated-Top
Walkway mesh is a format family, not one product. The same steel becomes welded mesh walkway panels, press-locked close mesh or serrated-top bars — and each format walks best in a different place. Here is the family, side by side.
| Dimension | Welded mesh walkway panels Default format | Press-locked close mesh | Serrated-top option |
|---|---|---|---|
| Construction | Every bearing-bar / cross-bar intersection pressure-forged on the electro-forging line | Cross bars mechanically pressed into notched bearing bars — no weld heat | Serrated teeth on the bearing-bar walking face, welded construction |
| Mesh range | 30 / 40 / 60 mm centers | Down to 11 / 11 mm close mesh | Same welded mesh range with a toothed walking face |
| Underfoot behavior | Open mesh sheds water, ice and debris; spacing sized for boots | Openings small enough for heels and small footwear | Teeth engage wet or oily soles by geometry |
| Walks best on | Plant walkways, platforms, service runs with light wheels | Pedestrian walkways, public access, mezzanine edges | Outdoor routes, washdown areas, ramp and stair access |
| Finish options | Black, hot-dip galvanized (ASTM A123 / ISO 1461) or painted | Same finishes; mill-finish stainless also available | Hot-dip galvanized as standard on Q235B serrated panels |
| Our lines | In-house — electro-forging line | In-house — press-lock machine | Bearing-bar surface option on our welded line |
Serrated-top is a surface option, not a third process
Serration is cut into the bearing bar before the panel is welded, so "serrated walkway mesh" is welded mesh walkway panels with a toothed walking face. Press-locked formats can carry serrated flat bars too. We describe the mechanics honestly — anti-slip as geometry, never as a test claim — see the serrated grating page.
Choosing by opening geometry instead?
This page compares the format family — how the mesh is made. If your question is which walkway grid geometry fits your spans and loads (bar pitch, opening size, direction), the geometry chooser lives on the walkway grid mesh page; material grades are covered on the metal walkway mesh page.

How the formats are made
From Bearing Bars to a Mesh Walkway
1 · Welded mesh walkway panels
Electro-forged on our in-house line: every bearing-bar and cross-bar intersection pressure-welded in one pass. The default walkway mesh format at 30/40/60 mm centers, plain or serrated, flat off the line.
2 · Press-locked close mesh
On our press-lock machine, cross bars interlock with notched bearing bars down to 11/11 mm openings — no heat, perfectly flat panels for walkways where small footwear crosses the mesh.
3 · Serrated-top bearing bars
The same welded panels with teeth on the walking face — the geometry that keeps steel walkway mesh walkable when rain, oil or frost makes a plain bar slippery. Choose plain where smooth rolling matters.
Swage-locked and other locked-bar walkway formats are assessed per project on our press line — stated honestly in your quote. Press-locked grating details →
Why specify steel walkway mesh
Why Plant Buyers Specify Steel Walkway Mesh from Dengtai
Safe, load-rated for daily plant traffic
Bearing bars sized to your span and traffic — boots, trolleys or light wheels, day after day. Load tables for your panel geometry are provided with the quote, so the walkway is rated, not guessed.
Serrated or plain — non-slip by geometry
Anti-slip performance comes from the surface you choose: serrated-top bars for wet or oily walkways, plain bars where smooth rolling matters. Same mesh family, either walking face.
Factory-direct, bulk or trial orders
Buy steel walkway mesh in bulk or start with a small trial order — FOB Tianjin pricing is itemized in your quote, with MTC 3.1 documents and a reply inside 24 hours.
Applications
Where Each Walkway Mesh Format Walks Best
Open steel mesh that sheds water, ice and debris under daily traffic — the format decides who walks on it comfortably, and in what weather.
Plant walkways & platforms
Welded mesh panels at 30/40/60 mm centers — the everyday format for maintenance access carrying boots and light wheels.
Pedestrian & public access
Press-locked close mesh down to 11/11 mm openings, where heels and small footwear cross the walkway.
Wet, oily & frosty routes
Serrated-top mesh walkways for washdown areas, outdoor access routes and ramp or stair approaches.
Catwalks & mezzanine runs
A walkway grid of open mesh keeps weight down and light, sightlines and drainage up on elevated steel runs.

Materials & test documents
Every heat of Q235B, SS304 or SS316 enters production with its mill test certificate verified at goods-in — the first of our five QC stages. Your steel walkway mesh leaves with documentation, not promises:
- Mill test certificates (EN 10204 Type 3.1) for your walkway mesh, per batch
- Factory inspection report with every shipment
- Declaration of Conformity prepared per order destination

Standard sizes and cut-to-run panels
Standard steel walkway mesh comes as panels up to 1.25 m wide and 6 m long. A long walkway is built two ways: butt standard panels end to end with joints landing on the support steel, or order cut-to-run panels made to your exact walkway lengths so site cutting and waste drop away. Panel widths can likewise be trimmed to the walkway width so nothing overhangs the supports. Both paths are custom sizes cut to drawings — banded edges included — with free drawing review inside the 24-hour quote.
Standards & compliance

FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions
Which walkway mesh format should I choose — welded, close mesh or serrated-top?
Welded mesh walkway panels at 30/40/60 mm centers are the default for plant walkways carrying boots and light wheels. Press-locked close mesh steps in where pedestrian traffic and small footwear cross the walkway, down to 11/11 mm openings. Serrated-top is a bearing-bar surface option on the same welded line for wet, oily or frosty routes — the format is chosen by duty, the surface by weather.
What are the standard walkway mesh panel sizes?
Standard steel walkway mesh panels run up to 1.25 m wide and 6 m long, with bearing bars from 20×3 mm to 100×8 mm at 30/40/60 mm centers. Longer runs are built by butting panels end to end over supports, or we cut panels to your walkway run lengths so joints land where the support steel is — both count as custom sizes cut to drawings.
What is the lead time, MOQ and shipping for steel walkway mesh?
Samples ship in 5–7 working days and mass production runs 15–25 working days after drawing confirmation, hot-dip galvanizing included. Small trial orders are welcome. Panels ship worldwide from Tianjin Port, FOB Tianjin as standard with EXW or CIF negotiable — pricing is itemized in your quote.
