AS 1428 explained

What AS 1428 Means for Grating

AS 1428 sets the Australian design requirements for access and mobility — the geometry of ramps, stairways and landings, and the slip resistance of the surfaces people walk on. We explain where grating sits in it, and we produce to it.

What AS 1428 is

AS 1428 is the Australian standard series for design for access and mobility. AS 1428.1 covers circulation spaces and building access, and AS 1428.4.1 covers slip resistance of pedestrian surfaces — the part that touches serrated grating and stair treads directly.

Where grating sits

Grating appears as stair treads and landing and walkway flooring in accessible routes. Open area, bar spacing, edge treatment and slip resistance all follow the access requirements the project calls out.

Key points for procurement

We produce serrated or plain treads and panels to your AS 1428-referenced drawings, add nosing where specified, and issue DoC and material certificates with the order.

AS 1428 Requirements vs Our Produce-to Position

We produce to standards — we do not claim certifications we do not hold. Here is how each AS 1428 project requirement maps to our manufacturing position.

How we support you

Produce to the Standard, Documents in Hand

1

Confirm your standard combo

Tell us the AS 1428 references on your drawing — AS 1428.1 geometry and AS 1428.4.1 slip groups — plus tread and panel sizes. We confirm we can produce to them and quote the full document set.

2

Test on request

Third-party sampling and testing arranged for the agreed batch before shipping — reports issued to the project file.

3

DoC + MTC with the order

Every order ships with a Declaration of Conformity per ISO 17050, an MTC to EN 10204 Type 3.1 and a factory inspection report.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Can you provide compliance and DoC documents with an AS 1428 grating order?

Yes. Every order ships with a Declaration of Conformity prepared per ISO 17050 for the destination market, an MTC to EN 10204 Type 3.1 and a factory inspection report. Slip test data is supplied on request when the project specifies it.

What is the difference between producing to AS 1428 and third-party certification?

Producing to a standard means treads and panels are manufactured and inspected to that standard's requirements. Certification is a separate third-party audit program. We state what we produce to and back it with documents and on-request testing — we do not claim certifications we do not hold.

What are your sample and production timelines?

Samples ship in 5–7 working days and mass production runs 15–25 working days after drawing confirmation, both including hot-dip galvanizing. Quote within 24 hours.
