Wet-floor comparison

Open Grid, Close Mesh or Solid Plate

A grid floor only earns its place where water is present. Here is how an open metal grid floor compares with close-mesh and solid steel grid flooring alternatives before you commit to a build — with an honest note on where each one belongs.

How a grid floor is built

Bars, Serrations and the Finish

bearing bars cross bars openings drain water

1 · Open bar grid

Bearing bars carry the load, spaced at 30 / 40 / 60 mm centers, with cross bars locked at every intersection. The open grid is the drainage: process water leaves the walking surface the moment it lands.

serrations on the walking edge

2 · Serration option

The anti-slip choice: the bearing bar top edge is notched into serrations that grip wet and greasy soles. Specify serrated grid floor for washdown zones, plain bars where the floor stays dry and clean.

3 · Finish for the environment

Q235B panels go out hot-dip galvanized to ASTM A123 / ISO 1461 for general wet duty. For food, chemical and marine washdown, the whole grid is SS304 or SS316 stainless — no coating to wear through.

Why specify a grid floor

Why Maintenance Teams Specify a Steel Grid Floor

Heavy-duty grid floor ratings

Bearing bars from 20×3 mm to 100×8 mm take everything from foot traffic to pallet trucks. State the load and span — load tables are available on request with your quote.

Anti-slip under washdown

Serrated bearing bars keep grip when hosed floors are wet and soaped. Where small items must not drop through, closer centers and press-locked 11 / 11 mm mesh keep the surface heel-proof.

Factory-direct, made to order

Custom grid floor panels cut and banded to your drawings, sampled in 5–7 days, with FOB Tianjin pricing itemized in your 24-hour quote. Small trial orders welcome.

Applications

Where Metal Grid Floors Earn Their Keep

The common thread is water: wherever a process floor gets hosed, splashed or rained on, open steel grid flooring keeps a walkable, drainable surface instead of a shallow pool.

Wet process floors

Process water drains through the grid as it is made — no standing layer between operators and the line.

Washdown platforms

SS304 / SS316 grid floors for food and chemical wash zones — hosed clean, nothing to blister or peel.

Trench & drainage covers

The same grid doubles as a trench grating cover — floor and channel in one steel system.

Wet-zone stair treads

Serrated grating treads to match the floor — specified, finished and shipped in the same order.

Materials & test documents

Every heat of Q235B, SS304 or SS316 enters production with its mill test certificate verified at goods-in — the first of our five QC stages. Grid floor panels leave with documentation, not promises:

  • Mill test certificate to EN 10204 Type 3.1
  • Factory inspection report with every shipment
  • Declaration of Conformity prepared per order destination

Standards & compliance

Produced to Recognized Standards — Documents on Request

ANSI / NAAMM MBG 531

Grid floor panels produced to MBG 531 reference practice, with joint inspection on our five-stage QC plan.

ASTM A123 / ISO 1461 HDG

Galvanized coating thickness checked by sampling on every galvanized batch before grid floor panels are released.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the lead time for a metal grid floor order?

Samples ship in 5–7 working days and mass production runs 15–25 working days after drawing confirmation, hot-dip galvanizing included. Rush production in 10–15 days is possible with a surcharge — ask in your quote.

Which grid floor finish suits a washdown area: HDG or stainless steel?

For general wet areas, Q235B carbon steel with hot-dip galvanizing to ASTM A123 / ISO 1461 is the standard choice. For food, chemical and marine washdown zones, specify SS304 or SS316 stainless grid flooring — tell us the environment and we will recommend one inside your 24-hour quote.

Do you accept small trial orders of grid floor panels?

Yes — small trial orders are welcome. Full-container orders are calculated per loading plan, and grid floor panels, stair treads and trench covers can ship together in one order from Tianjin Port on FOB terms.
