Material comparison

Steel Grating Material Comparison

A mesh floor is only as durable as its material. Filter by environment first, then corrosion need, then cost — the zinc-coated row is what this page supplies.

Material Corrosion behavior Typical environment Relative cost Documents & delivery
Hot-Dip Galvanized Q235B Zinc barrier plus sacrificial protection — corrosion-resistant through rain, snow and washdown Outdoor walkways, plant platforms, trench covers, parking areas Mid-range MTC EN 10204 3.1 · galvanizing included in the lead time
Carbon Steel Q235B Strong and economical; must be painted or coated once exposed Dry indoor platforms, warehouse flooring Baseline MTC EN 10204 3.1 · black finish
Stainless SS304 Corrosion-resistant to most food and chemical washdown Food plants, clean-in-place floors Higher MTC EN 10204 3.1 · no coating needed
Stainless SS316 Molybdenum-added grade for salt-spray exposure Coastal platforms, seawater drainage Highest MTC EN 10204 3.1 · no coating needed

Zinc seals what paint cannot

Hot-dip galvanizing is done after cutting and banding, so every cut edge and weld point is immersed and sealed — no touch-up stripes on a mesh floor.

Scratches defend themselves

Zinc protects the steel sacrificially: where the coating is scored by traffic, the surrounding zinc keeps the exposed steel from rusting outward.

Open mesh plus zinc beats wet floors

Rain and washdown fall straight through the mesh instead of ponding — the zinc coating handles whatever moisture stays on the bars.

The weather-exposed floor decision path

Spacing, Zinc, Fixing — in That Order

30 / 40 / 60 mm centers mesh opening

1 · Set the mesh opening

Walkway traffic normally takes 30 / 40 / 60 mm centers — open enough for rain, leaves and debris to fall through, close enough for boots and trolleys. Public access floors can go heel-proof close mesh.

zinc layer steel core panel dipped after fabrication

2 · Hot-dip galvanize the panel

Finished panels are dipped whole — zinc bonds metallurgically to every bar and seals every cut edge, which is exactly what a wet, weather-exposed floor needs. ASTM A123 / ISO 1461 practice, 2–3 days, inside your production window.

saddle clip bolt bolted — no site welding on the coating

3 · Fix it down, coating intact

Clips, saddle clips and bolts hold panels to the support steel without burning through the zinc. A fixing layout and installation drawings ship with every order — bolted assembly on site.

Why specify galvanized mesh

Why Specifiers Choose Galvanized Mesh Flooring

Corrosion-resistant, wet-site duty

A zinc coating that shrugs off rain, snow and washdown, on an open mesh that drains itself — the standard recipe for outdoor walkways and platforms that stay serviceable year-round.

Mill certs, grade traceable

Every heat of Q235B enters production with its certificate verified at goods-in — the first of our five QC stages — and panels leave with mill test certificates (EN 10204 Type 3.1) with every shipment.

Any size, small MOQ

Wholesale panels cut and banded to your drawings — standard designations or fully custom dimensions. Small trial orders welcome, factory-direct pricing with no middlemen.

Applications

Where Galvanized Mesh Flooring Works

Weather-exposed walking surfaces are where the zinc earns its keep — open mesh that drains, on a coating that keeps draining floors corrosion-resistant.

Outdoor walkways

Elevated or grade-level walkways that shed rain and snow instead of collecting them.

Platforms & mezzanines

Heavy-duty mesh floors for plant platforms, equipment access and storage mezzanines.

Trench & drain covers

Galvanized covers over site drains and trenches — the floor drains, the cover stays corrosion-resistant.

Stair treads & landings

Matching galvanized treads and landing panels, serrated or plain, with nosing options.

Mill test certificates (EN 10204 Type 3.1)

Galvanized mesh flooring ships with traceable mill test certificates (EN 10204 Type 3.1) with every shipment — the Q235B heat number is checked at goods-in, and the coating report follows the galvanized batch:

  • Mill test certificate to EN 10204 Type 3.1
  • Galvanized coating thickness report per batch
  • Factory inspection report and Declaration of Conformity per destination

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Does galvanized mesh flooring come with a mill test certificate?

Yes. Galvanized mesh flooring ships with traceable mill test certificates (EN 10204 Type 3.1) with every shipment — the steel grade is verified at goods-in, and certificates are ready to preview before you place the order.

Which material should I choose for an outdoor mesh floor?

For outdoor walkways and platforms, hot-dip galvanized Q235B is the usual choice — the zinc coating keeps the open mesh corrosion-resistant through rain, snow and washdown. Move up to SS304 for chemical washdown areas, or SS316 near salt water.

How long does hot-dip galvanizing add to the lead time?

Panels go to a certified galvanizing partner near our mill for ASTM A123 / ISO 1461 hot-dip galvanizing — typically 2–3 days, already counted inside the 15–25 working-day production window. Samples ship in 5–7 working days, galvanizing included.
