Catwalk flooring spec sheet
Six Spec Lines Decide Every Metal Catwalk Floor
A catwalk floor is bought span-first. State these six lines on your drawings and the panel follows — that is the whole specification game for metal catwalk flooring, whether the deck runs in carbon steel or stainless steel catwalk grating.
| Spec line | What to state on your drawings | How we match it |
|---|---|---|
| Clear span | The gap each flooring panel must bridge between support steel | Bearing bars sized from 20×3 mm up to 100×8 mm against that span |
| Support spacing | How often beams appear under the run — the spacing between supports | Closer supports allow lighter panels; wide spacing moves the steel into the floor |
| Bar spacing | 30 / 40 / 60 mm centers across the walking direction | Closer centers stiffen the deck under tool carts and set-down loads |
| Deflection limit | The movement your design standard allows under load | Produced to your stated limit; span and deflection tables come with your quote |
| Edge treatment | Banded panel ends, plus toe plates where the floor runs at height | Trim bar welded flush across bearing bar ends; toe plates supplied alongside |
| Fixing method | Clips, weld seats or bolted plates onto the support steel | Fixing layout included with the installation drawings in every order |

Deflection behavior
How Metal Catwalk Flooring Behaves Underfoot
1 · Span drives sag
Deflection grows much faster than span grows — stretch the gap between supports and the same bearing bar moves noticeably more. That is why the catwalk floor is specified span-first, and why extra support steel is often cheaper than extra floor steel.
2 · Point load is the harder case
People spread out; a tool cart or a set-down crate concentrates. A floor that feels fine under walking traffic can still move under a single heavy footprint at midspan — so we ask for both cases in your inquiry, not just the area load.
3 · Two dials: depth and spacing
Deepening the bearing bar stiffens the floor far faster than adding bars does, but closer 30 / 40 mm spacing also firms the deck between them. We balance both against your support spacing — with the deflection checked per your market standard, tables supplied with your quote.
Why specify our floors
Catwalk Flooring Built to Last, Load-Rated and Made to Size
Safe, load-rated metal catwalk
Tell us the span, the support spacing and what crosses the floor — people, carts, crates. The panel is then built load-rated for that duty, in Q235B carbon steel or SS304 / SS316 stainless for washdown service.
Anti-slip flooring, serrated or plain
Serration is a geometry choice: teeth stand proud of the bearing bar so a boot sole meets edges, not a flat face — the usual anti-slip catwalk flooring pick for wet or oily areas. Plain top for dry indoor routes.
Custom catwalk flooring sizes, MTC 3.1
Cut and banded to your drawings — every panel lands on your support steel without site cutting. Catwalk flooring with MTC 3.1 mill certificates on every heat, factory-direct from one supplier.
Edges at height
Edge Banding, Toe Plates and Fixing to Support Steel
At height, the floor is only half the story. The other half is what happens at the panel edge and where steel meets steel — the details that keep boots, tools and panels where they belong.
1 · Banded edges
A flat trim bar is welded across the bearing bar ends, closing the panel so the floor ends in a smooth edge instead of cut bar tips. Banding also holds the panel square in transit — see banding types explained.
2 · Toe plates where floors run high
A toe plate stands up from the walking surface along open edges so a dropped spanner stays on the catwalk instead of leaving it. Toe plates are sourced companion items we supply alongside our flooring to one set of drawings — see the grating toe plate page.
3 · Fixing to the support steel
Panels can be clipped for removal during shutdowns, welded into permanent runs, or seated on bolted plates — the fixing plan follows your maintenance routine. Clips are sourced companion items; a fixing layout ships with the installation drawings. See clips and fixings.
Applications
Where Metal Catwalk Flooring Carries Daily Traffic
Catwalk flooring for platforms earns its keep wherever people work above the process — the same span-first spec, tuned duty by duty.
Maintenance catwalks
Short-span floors between process units on frequent support steel — light panels, quick bolt-down.
Conveyor gantries
Long clear spans over conveyors on fewer beams — deeper bearing bars do the bridging, banded ends on every panel.
Tank decks & roof walks
Galvanized catwalk flooring for outdoor duty, tied into toe plates, guardrails and stair flights as one package.
Washdown & chemical areas
Stainless steel catwalk grating in SS304 / SS316 where chlorides and daily hosing rule carbon steel out.

FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the lead time for metal catwalk flooring?
Samples ship in 5–7 working days and mass production runs 15–25 working days after drawing confirmation, both including hot-dip galvanizing. Rush production in 10–15 days is possible with a surcharge — ask in your quote.
Do you accept small trial orders of catwalk flooring?
Yes — small trial orders are welcome, and bulk catwalk flooring orders are calculated per loading plan, so you only pay for the steel you ship.
How is metal catwalk flooring fixed to the support steel?
Panels are fixed with clips, weld seats or bolted plates per your drawings — installation drawings and a fixing layout are included with every order. Toe plates and clips are sourced companion items supplied alongside our panels.
