Catwalk mesh formats

Catwalk Mesh Formats: Open, Close and Serrated

On an elevated walk the mesh opening is the whole decision: what falls through it, what the crew can see below, and how the panel feels underfoot. These are the three catwalk mesh formats we build — all three in the same factory, all cut to your drawings.

Mesh geometry

How Catwalk Mesh Geometry Is Built

bearing bars cross bars 30 / 40 / 60 mm centers

1 · Open mesh at 30 / 40 / 60 mm

Bearing bars and twisted cross bars are resistance-forged at every intersection. This is the classic metal catwalk grating: water, snow and debris fall straight through, and the panel stays light per square meter.

flat bars interlocked at 11 / 11 mm centers

2 · Close mesh at 11 / 11 mm

Flat bars are press-locked into a dense grid with no welding heat, so panels come out dead flat. The openings are small enough that spanners, bolts and work gloves stay on the catwalk instead of dropping onto people or equipment below.

serrated plain tooth profile on the bearing bar

3 · Serrated or plain surface

Either mesh format can be built with serrated bearing bars. The tooth profile is a geometry choice for wet, oily or frosty service — we describe it as design intent, and you can request per-batch test data with your quote. Plain bars where smooth-wheeled trolleys run or washdown matters.

Why specify catwalk mesh

Why Plant Teams Order Our Metal Catwalk Grating

Anti-slip by geometry

A metal grate catwalk stays safe through its surface, not a coating: serrated teeth in wet service, or plain welded bars for dry indoor walkways. Close 11/11 mm mesh adds even heel support on elevated runs.

Load-rated for daily traffic

Bearing bars from 20×3 mm to 100×8 mm, specified by span and traffic — maintenance crews with tool bags, not guesswork. Load tables are provided with your quote, and the 24-hour quote includes a free drawing review.

Custom sizes from small MOQ

Catwalk mesh is made to size, cut and banded to your drawings — in bulk for a full gantry or a handful of panels for one access platform. Galvanized or black, Q235B or stainless, itemized FOB Tianjin quote on request.

Applications

Where Catwalk Mesh Works

Elevated walks live or die by mesh spacing: what the crew carries, what sits underneath, and how comfortable people are looking down through the floor. Four typical duties:

Plant & equipment catwalks

Daily maintenance access over process lines — open mesh where nothing sits below, close mesh where crews work underneath.

Conveyor & pipe gantries

Long overhead runs with tools and spares in hand — 11/11 mm close mesh keeps small parts from dropping into the plant below.

Tank & silo access walkways

Outdoor catwalks in hot-dip galvanized steel — serrated mesh where plate surfaces and rain combine.

Mezzanine & platform edges

Mesh flooring and edge infill that lets light through the structure — sized and banded to each opening in your layout.

Materials & test documents

Every heat of Q235B, SS304 or SS316 enters production with its mill test certificate verified at goods-in — the first of our five QC stages. Metal catwalk grating leaves with documentation, not promises:

  • Mill test certificate to EN 10204 Type 3.1
  • Factory inspection report with every shipment
  • Declaration of Conformity prepared per order destination

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the lead time for catwalk mesh panels?

Samples ship in 5–7 working days and mass production runs 15–25 working days after drawing confirmation, both including hot-dip galvanizing. Rush production in 10–15 days is possible with a surcharge — ask in your quote.

Do you accept small trial orders of catwalk mesh?

Yes — small trial orders are welcome. Full-container orders are calculated per loading plan, so you only pay for the steel you ship.

How is catwalk mesh shipped and priced?

Shipped worldwide from Tianjin Port — FOB Tianjin as standard, EXW or CIF negotiable. Pricing is itemized per m² or per ton in your quote; we do not publish a fixed price list.
