Grid Geometry: Open Area vs Cleaning Frequency
A "drain grid" is a drain grating by another name — buyers send drawings titled stainless steel drain grid, stainless steel gully grid or plain steel gully grid, and the same panel answers all three. What actually separates one grid from the next is the opening: bigger apertures move water faster but pass more debris into the channel; tighter mesh filters debris and protects heels but needs more routine cleaning. That trade-off is the first spec decision on every stainless drain grid we quote.

Three Routes to a Stainless Grid Panel
1 · Welded grid
Bearing bars at 30 / 40 / 60 mm centers, twisted cross bars forged into every intersection. The default stainless steel drain grid: strong, open and quick to quote.
2 · Press-locked close mesh
Cross bars mechanically pressed into notched bearing bars down to 11 / 11 mm openings — no weld heat, perfectly flat panels, small solids and heels stay on top.
3 · Stainless, no coating step
SS304 for washdown and general wet duty, SS316 where chlorides or cleaning chemicals attack — the alloy is the corrosion strategy, so no galvanizing pass is needed and the schedule shortens.
