Where "Galvanized Iron" Sits in the Material Line-Up

Two words, two engineering decisions. "Iron" in trade language means low-carbon steel — Q235B at our mill. "Galvanized" means the panel went through a hot-dip zinc bath after fabrication. So a galvanized iron grating order leaves here as hot-dip galvanized Q235B steel grating, and the paperwork says exactly that. A galvanized steel grating 1m panel or a longer run is the same product on the same line — length is just a cutting detail. Here is how that material sits against the other three we run.

1 · The "iron" half — it is steel

Pure iron is soft and nobody builds grating from it. Every "iron grating" on the market is low-carbon steel — at our mill that is Q235B, bought by heat number and verified at goods-in, the first of our five QC stages.

2 · The "galvanized" half — zinc, dipped

After cutting and banding, panels go to a certified hot-dip galvanizing partner near our mill — a 2–3 day cycle already counted inside your production window. Coating thickness is checked by sampling to ASTM A123 / ISO 1461 before release.

3 · What the paperwork calls it

Quotes and certificates use mill language, not nicknames: grade Q235B, finish hot-dip galvanized, chemical analysis per heat. So when a tender line says grating galvanized, your customs file and your QA file agree on what shipped.

"GI grating" is everyday shorthand in South Asian, Southeast Asian and Gulf markets, and we quote it the same way everywhere: welded (electro-forged) or press-locked construction, Q235B core, zinc finish, cut to your cutting list.

No. In trade language iron is shorthand for low-carbon steel — the bars we run are Q235B carbon steel, hot-dip galvanized after fabrication. The mill test certificate states the actual heat chemistry, so what arrives matches what your spec calls for.
